Losing Battle is about giving up something that no longer serves you. It was written on guitar when I was homesick in Nashville, and was finished in a cabin in the Sequoia national forest. At the time, a lot of the songs I was writing felt really forced and I realized I was trying to follow a creative process that clearly wasn’t working for me. I was also leaving a difficult relationship with someone very close to me. I had been battling both of these frustrating relationships for years thinking that if I left them it would be giving up, and giving up is scary. In writing it, I not only discovered a new creative process; it bookmarked a life changing moment where I said “this old way of doing things no longer works for me”.
